Hockey match report by Abi:
Dudsy (Wilmslow Ladies 2s Coach) and the team arrived at Bowden on Saturday afternoon, ready to take on Bowden Ladies 3s. They headed to the changing rooms to talk everything positions and team tac tics, then went to the pitch to warm-up. Once the team had warmed up and completed enough passing and shooting drills to prepare them for what was to come, the umpire called the captains over. Our wonderful captain, Nic, won the toss. The ladies set up in a 4/3/3 formation, with the potential to change it at halftime.
The whistle blew and the ladies were underway. Bowden came out strong and with one extra outfield player, managed to break through our lines and score first. Despite this, our ladies remained focused and knew what they had to do.
The whistle blew for half time. Dudsy called the team over to briefly discuss the first half: what went well, where could they improve. As a collective, they decided to change the formation on the pitch, in order to give themselves the best possible chance of scoring goals. The ladies switched to a 3/4/3. Then the whistle blew for the start of the second half. The ladies knew how they wanted to play and the new formation allowed them to do just that. The game opened up and the girls were able to attack with confidence and in numbers, which led to a few short corners. Unfortunately Wilmslow didn’t score from any of their short corners, but open play goals from Molly, Famke and Issy made all the difference.
The final whistle blew and the girls had done it! Final score: 3:1. Nic lead the 3-cheers on behalf of Wilmslow, which was shortly followed by a shaking of hands between both teams. Wilmslow went for a cool down, then got together, along with Dudsy, to debrief the match.
The team voted Famke for player of the match for determination and effort. Meanwhile Abi won donkey of the day for comments such as ‘I don’t like not being near a side line..!’
Overall, Wilmslow Ladies 2s played some brilliant hockey and both the players and coach are pleased with their performance.
