Junior Section

Southampton Hockey Club offers friendly, inclusive, and fun hockey to juniors aged 5 and up. Run by a number of qualified coaches and volunteers from across the club, our Sunday training sessions are the perfect place for youngsters to develop their fitness, hand-eye co-ordination, temwork, and social skills in a safe and exciting environment.

As young players grow and develop, we look to embed a core understanding of the fundamentals of hockey and offer opportunites to compete in matches and tournaments across the South Central area. For those showing high levels of potential, our Wednesday academy sessions for players 9-12 look to build upon the basics learned on Sunday mornings and prepare players for county hockey and the transition into adult hockey. We regularly see a large number of our juniors selected for performance center training camps which often leads to selection to represent the county and beyond!

Our thriving junior section is one of the largest in Hampshire, and we are always ready to welcome new members, whether they be complete beginners, those wanting to build upon their school hockey training, or those just wanting to try out a new sport!

Southampton Hockey Club has a store of bibs, cones, balls, and other training equipment for use in training sessions, as well as a stock of pre-owned sticks that can be borrowed if needed. Players are of course welcome (and encouraged) to bring their own stick. We also ask that all juniors attending training sessions and matches come equipped with the following:

• Gum shield
• Shin pads
• Suitable footwear (astros or trainers with good grip)
• A drink in a sports bottle
• Suitable clothing (sports shorts and shirts, plus jumpers/tracksuits depending on the weather!)

Southampton Hockey Club is a community amateur sports club, and as such we pride ourselves of being open and accessible to all. Our membership fees are some of the lowest in the area and offer fantastic value for money, including all training sessions and matches (except summer league).
