Junior Development

Open access, regular hockey training with a focus on young players in school years 6-10, who have limited opportunities to learn or play hockey through school.

✅ Tuesdays 6:30 - 7:30 pm in term time

✅ Mixed, school years 6-10 (but some flexibility).

✅ High coach to player ratio (currently 1:5).

✅ Fun training - a mix of skills, drills and small team play with an emphasis on fun + development rather than competitive play.

✅ A great environment to learn the game for those entering the sport in Y6 or above.

✅ Early 'graduates' now playing in our senior 2s!

✅ Free taster sessions.

Who can register for Junior Development Training sessions?

  • Players new to hockey and looking for an opportunity to try the sport, and to pick up core skills in a supportive environment. Our ambition is for these players to go on to join local clubs (hopefully CCHC 😃) for competitive age group & senior fixtures.
  • Local hockey club players who wish to access additional training to further develop their skills, but do not have any regular school hockey provision. Players from any local club are welcome, and this does not affect them playing either age group or senior hockey for their current club.

Our ultimate aim is to help players reach their potential playing club hockey (and maybe beyond!), and with a lifelong love & enjoyment of the sport!

Coaching

All coaches are members of CCHC and have a mix of extensive playing and coaching experience. The coaching staff are heavily vested in encouraging more youngsters into the sport to broaden the skill base of those that are keen to play more hockey.

Where and when are the sessions held?

  • Tuesday 6.30-7.30pm
  • Pitch 2 - Wilberforce Road Sports Ground, CB3 0EQ

Is there a fee to attend?

  • 2 free taster sessions.
  • Fee for the season is then £130.
  • No additional fee for existing CCHC members eligible to participate.

Equipment

All that’s required is a stick, shin pads, a gum shield and a water bottle. If you don’t have a stick, just let us know and we’ll ensure we have a spare for you to use. Aside from that – a willingness to participate, learn some new skills, meet new friends and have fun are all that’s required.

I am enjoying Junior Development training & I am interested in playing competitive club hockey to develop my hockey further.

We'd love to see you play more with CCHC. Our age group squads train on a Sunday & also play their fixtures on Sundays. Also, from 13, young players can play in our senior sides with mid-week training and Saturday fixtures, and we have young players playing at every level from our 6s to our 1s! Talk to the coaches about what might be good for you, and they can help you decide, and arrange for you to come along to a taster session.
