Scorers: Miriam Marti, Maddy Murphy x 2, Amie H x 2
The W1 (aka ‘The Ducks’) travelled away to Slough. They have been improving with every match and were itching for a win.
The team started the game strongly, Miriam scoring from a short corner within the first 3 minutes. This seemed to shake the opposition who weren’t expecting this. City continued to dominate the feisty game and were rewarded with another short corner goal in the second quarter from new signing Maddy Murphy.
After wise words from Poppy Martin at half time, the team went out to extend their lead. A high ball in the D was deflected into the goal by Amie H in the third quarter. The City defence continued to close down any attack and outletted great balls through the field.
The final quarter saw things become more frenzied, Maddy Murphy scored again with a great reverse top bins. Slough then scored a couple of minutes afterwards. Rebounding quickly City took the play to the other end, Amie H scoring again, slotting a reverse bottom corner. In the last 5 seconds Slough scored to make the final score 5-2.
City had fought relentlessly throughout and were thrilled with such a resounding win. A very well deserved 3 points. The team now looks forward to taking on top of the table ISCA at Wilberforce road on Saturday. All support massively appreciated - push back is @12.30.
POM to Charlotte Rye for her defensive intensity and silky skills.
