There were plenty of familiar names in the teamsheet for the first M7s game of the new season. In fact, the first ever league game for the CCHC M7s.
Regular Captain Stephen Graves was on safari and it was back to basics as Tim Ireland took the armband. "First game of the season", "stop and pass" etc etc.
The team pretty much ignored that for the first five minutes then started to stop and pass and guess what? We looked OK.
The new St Mary's pitch has a rather fancy clock that displays the temperature as well as the time. 30.3 degrees was a bit warmer than a Tuesday night in Long Sutton and we were all glad to have rolling subs
S Aldous scored a nicely worked goal. There was more running around in the sun and, at times decent hockey was played.
We won plenty of penalty corners which the youngsters squandered. Next week Gadsby and Ireland will resume control.
A final word for Man of the Match Harry Chatwin. This was his third outing for the team. This time he actually touched the ball but maintained his clean sheet record with some good saves.
