Cambridge City Women’s 1s vs Isca & Exeter Uni Women’s 1s
Saturday 25th February 2023
Vitality Women’s Division 1 South
Umpires: Ann Hopkins & Mark Oldfield; Match Official: Yvonne McCartney
Welcome one and all to the Olympic Dave Arena, aka Wilberforce Road,
Today we host Isca & University of Exeter who sit top of the league and have had a great season so far. We anticipate a tough but fair contest and look forward to having a bit of a crowd at the newly christened "Vicki Franks 'Stan'd" at Pitch 2. Many of you will be aware that Vicki, or Stan, has been somewhat of a club legend so we have unofficially named the spectator area after her.
Last week our women had a well earned victory on the road to Slough. Always a tough team to face home or away the success is doubly satisfying as so many of the team got in on the goals. This win is a fair reward for the great work the women have put in at training and off the pitch. We hope that this continues as the season develops and the squad can be confident that they have the backing of the entire club.
We also welcome Ann Hopkins, Mark Oldfield and Yvonne McCartney as umpires and our Match Official. We are particularly pleased to see Yvonne back after her brush with adventure last time she visited us, going full Hulk Hogan on the stair case and giving it a leg drop two weeks ago. Our thanks to both Ann and Mark for umpiring today and to everyone who volunteers their time to ensure our games get played.
Further down the club it is worth noting the great performance of the 3rd XI women last week at the Peter Boizot astro. It was a pleasure to see so many across the club turn up to support and witness a great performance by the team. They truly represent what we are doing at CCHC; providing an opportunity for all to enjoy hockey, make friendships and progress their performance regardless of age, background or experience.
Best of luck to all.
Simon Webb
Honorary Vice President
